We Found Waldo

August 20, 2018 Danish Word of the Week: fod - foot Danish Fun Fact: Where's Waldo in Denmark is Hvor er Holger? More on that later.   In this edition of Lovely Lyngby we are with our protagonist Søster Esplin as she deals with a broken foot (not her own, don't worry), a heart-breaking drop text, baptismal interviews, splits, and a splendid game of ''Where's Waldo.''  On Monday our two heronies woke up to a text from their friends Koosha and Niloufar.  This Iranian couple have sadly decided that they can no longer meet with the missionaries.  They are happy with their own religion, and aren't really looking for change.  While this crushed Sisters Esplin and Calame, they held back tears and moved on.  Nothing gets in the way of missionary work.  They also met with their Zodiac Sign friend and had a good conversation with him on the Book of Mormon and prayer.  A quotation from her journal says, ''He is very receptive.  At t...

August 13, 2018 Danish Word of the Week: fedt - means ''fat'' but Danish people use it like we use ''cool'' hahah Danish Fun Fact: There is a statue on the coast of Copenhagen named ''Kristina'' which is a statue about the Church!! OUR church! Underneath her are the names of Danish converts that left for the states when the first missionaries got to Denmark.  More on this later.   So this week was incredible, but such is the case with every week.   Monday was great.  We had a nice, chill pday.  We then went to a members for a family home evening with our friends Koosha and Niloufar! We had a spiritual thought about fiathe and ate some fruit pie.  Koosha and Niloufar are the cutest couple.  Niloufar is BEAUTIFUL and Koosha is really cool.  They bought us mugs! They are matching mugs that say ''sister'' on them, so that is adorable.   Tuesday - Sometimes life gives you lemons and your nicely planned day g...

August 6, 2018 Danish Missionary Fun Fact: You know that you have been in Denmark too long when you are asked to pray in english, and you translate the prayer in your head from Danish to English.  Who would have thought that praying in English would be one of the hardest things that I would experience on my mission?  This week was too incredible.  I don't know if I'll be able to express all of the things that happened, but I'll try my best so hang on tight.  We're going to go through my week again.   Monday - pday.  chill.  didn't do too much.  Tuesday - Oh boy today was a good one.  Between a lesson with Kim and lunch we had some time to talk to people on the street and we found our new friend Gary from the Philippines! He's very christian and said that he would like to meet.  Way cool.  Later we did some stop by of a few potential friends we had and while they weren't home or weren't interested, we found a new...

The Longest, Shortest, Most Miracle Filled 7 Days

July 30, 2018 Danish Word of the Week: Mormons Bog! The Book of Mormon ahah So this week was grand.  I have a new companion named Søster Calame and I love her.  She is a convert of 2 1/2 years, from Switzerland, and she is just incredible.  We are having an absolute blast together.   Hold on tight because this was the most miracle filled week I have every experienced.   So first of all, Kim.  Kim has agreed to another baptismal date! A week or so ago, we asked Kim to pray to God about a new baptismal date for him.  He said he prayed, and the answer he got back was 24, which he interpretted as 2024 - the year.  That made us more than a little concerned.  So this week, we said a pray together and tried to all feel an answer.  Kim looks back up at us after the prayer and says, ''I still feel good about 24.''  I ask him, ''Do you think God maybe meant the  24th of August ?''  He thinks about it for a ...

Lovin it in Lyngby

July 23, 2018 This is going to be a short email because of transfers and some other things.  BUT it was a good week! We went and saw the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen last pday and it was grand.  That part of Copenhagen is the most adorable place ever.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.   Kim is doing really well! He is still trying to stop smoking and drinking coffee, but it's coming.  He is still the happiest person I know and loves to come to church! He is basically totally independent at church now, so that is super cool.  Boy am I grateful for Kim. We also had a great appointment with a couple from Iran! They even came to church! It was a bit of a struggle because our translation system was having some problems so I ended up having to translate in their ears, but it all worked out in the end.  They really enjoyed it and they said that they will come back next week!  Another cool miracle we had was meeting our two new friends...

Lyngby is also Lively

July 16, 2018 Well hello there family! We are 2/3 normal, 1/3 missionary.  How cool?? I think it's pretty awesome at least! WE ARE THE ARMY OF GOD. Danish Word of the Week:  Nederdel - downer part - skirt Danish Fun Fact: The quickest way to a Dane's heart is through the weather.  Danish people LOVE to discuss the weather.  They could spend hours talking about the weather.  The weather has been rather lovely lately, by the way.   This week was good! We met with Kim several times.  He really loves reading in the Book of Mormon and is doing good with the Word of Wisdom.  Still smoking and drinking coffee, but it's coming.  He just bought himself a bike, so we all biked to church together.  It was super fun!  We had quite the miracle this week.  We met a college student on DTU campus about a month ago.  We talked to him for a while and gave him a Book of Mormon.  He was going on va...
