Danish Word of the Week: Syg. Sick
Danish Fun Fact: Christmas begins nov 1 in Denmark
WOW what a week. So much happened. Too much. This is going to be short because I have 0 time, but we're going to see how much I can get done.
I woke up on Tuesday and felt pretty sick (still), so we took the day easy. Had some planning to do, had a few lessons, but we laid low. We had a wonderfully hyggeligt eating appointment with one of the members in our branch. She taught us how to make Frikadeller and showed us one of the most famous danish flute songs (taagen letter by Carl Nielsen), and it was so fun. Food and flute, my 2 favorite things.
On Wednesday we went out to a little bitty town north of Viborg called Aalestrup because we received a self referral!! He is a really cool person. He wants a change in his life and thinks that this could be it. Super positive!!
We also met with T, which went really well!! She had her baptismal interview scheduled and everything set, but she was unable to come to church on Sunday which means that we will have to push back the baptism a couple of weeks. I'm really sad about that, because that means that I won't get to be here for her baptism. But that's okay, the show must go on!!!
On Thursday Søster Van Wagenen took the train to Copenhagen to take the required language and culture class, and the Hammerum sisters came up to me so that we could give a presentation at a high school here. That was so cool. These kids were 18-20 years of age and asked some really good questions (and all very impressed with our Danish, so that was a perk). I loved just talking with the students and helping them see that religion isn't just for old people, but for people exactly their ages.
On Friday we had district council and got... drum roll please... A BOOK. A REAL LIFE BOOK. THAT WE GET TO READ, entitled ''how to win friends and influence people.'' We will have a training on this later, so we are allowed to read the first 3 chapters. I ate those chapters up so fast. It was really cool to see how many of the suggestions had a gospel tie. Basically, this book teaches us that we win friends and influence people by being like Christ. I loved it. I love seeing how I could be doing better in not criticizing people, loving them, and complimenting them. Good good read.
On Saturday we had a couple of appointments. In one of them, we had planned to teach about the Holy Ghost, but our friends J and S had other plans. Instead, they taught us how to play Magic the Gathering and gave us our own decks. I'm basically a natural at it. Basically.
We had a lovely Sunday too. We played a musical number in church that had the whole branch in tears. They loved it so much that they are now planning a musical fireside in 2 weeks time. I do love the love and spirit that music brings. It has a way to pierce the heart. I was so touched by how much these faithful members felt about our song. I love Viborg.
This has been a fabulous week and I am excited for another one to come!! Thanks for reading, catch you next week!!
