Aalborg Adventures Episode 5: Week of Wonders
March 5, 2018
Hello! It's great to hear how you all are doing!!
Danish Word of the Week: Sne. It means snow.
Danish Fun Fact: People wear scarves so big that they could be blankets. There are more than needed.
This week was absolutely and utterly INSANE but also AMAZING. We went to a lighthouse on Monday called Rubjerg Knude. It's at the very top of Denmark and is stunning. It was also freezing and according to my handy dandy fit bit, we walked 9 miles total that day. Incredible. My feet felt it.
On Tuesday we had the Esbjerg sisters up for splits! Søster Peterson and I took our free bus tickets and sat ourselves down for about 2 hours, talking to everyone that sat next to us. We were quite lucky to be on a bus because Tuesday ended up being the coldest day in the history of the world. The snow was dumping and the wind was howling. We tried to knock a neighborhood, but no one would talk to us because it was too cold for them to open their door. Needless to say, we got back on the bus. We had some great success from bus contacting! Søster Peterson KILLED it and talked to some very interested people. I sat next to a young girl from Aalborg University and we had a wonderful discussion about the meaning of music in relation to knowing there is a God. I shared my testimony that there can not possibly be so much beauty in the world without a divine creator and she listened to me. She readily accepted a Book of Mormon. It was amazing. Also, I'M HALFWAY!! 9 months down, 9 to go!! CRAZY.
On Wednesday us and the Zone Leaders began going around to the different districts in our zone to give a training on health, fear, perfectionism and stress. We started out in Randers. We opened it up as a discussion and I learned some pretty cool things that I need to change about myself, the work, and my surroundings. We also had a great time eating kebabs.
Thursday brought another district meeting, our own, and I continued to learn so much. I love being around these missionaries. I learn so much about what I can become and the miracles that God can work through me.
Friday was the day of all days. Søster Dietch and I woke up at 5 am to catch our 5+ hour train to Copenhagen. Almost exactly a year ago, Søster Dietch taught and baptized a young man and on Friday he went through the temple. It was an amazing experience to witness. I was so happy and appreciative to be apart. The night ended with us helping out again at the Book of Mormon project! Way fun. As always.
We slowly made our way back to Aalborg on Saturday with a pitstop in Herning for our last district meeting training. I loved loved loved being back in my first area. It felt like going home.
And Sunday brought a miracle with our investigator coming to church!! She is preparing for her baptism in 2 weeks and we are so excited!!
All in all, this was a fantastic week. With such a crazy week, I got a little stressed. On Wednesday night I had a pit of anxiety in my stomach that wouldn't go away. Søster Dietch and I watched Legacy and I tried to distract myself from my bad feelings, but the impression came to me that I couldn't get rid of it on my own. So I humbled myself and asked my district leader to give me a blessing right before district meeting on Thursday. That was my first blessing on my mission. There have been times throughout these last 9 months that I definitely could and should have asked for a blessing but I didn't because I thought that I could handle stuff on my own. What I realized this past week is that we should never hesitate to use the power of the priesthood. God loves us and gives us His power so that He can help us, not so that we can use it as a last resort. I have a strong and firm testimony that God knows and loves every single one of us. He wants us to call on Him for help, love, support, and comfort. Don't ever forget that.
Jeg elsker jer alle sammen og er evigt taknemmelig for alt I har gjort for mig. Hav en god uge!!
