Aalborg Adventures Episode 12: I Joined a Band
April 23, 2018
Hello Hello Hello! How are you?
Danish Word of the Week: Knus. Hug.
Danish Fun Fact: Sun draws Danes out from hiding.
We had an absolutely wonderful week this week. We had 2 sets of splits, with Hammerum and Horsens, and I had a blast. I got to be with my old companion and bestie Søster Day! I love her so so so very much. It was great to storm the castle with her again. I was also with Sister Dorman! She's been in a car area so I decided to take it upon myself to teach her some helpful biking tips (because I'm old and wise in my biking skills). After a few tries she successfully and gracefully mounted her bike. I was mega proud and just as we were about to get on our way, I lost balance and waved my arms to find any sort of support, thus pushing her off her bike and onto the ground. I then proceeded to continue to fall and I landed ontop of her. She assured me that she was okay and didn't hate me. We both ended up with some pretty nasty bruises, but other than that we are hunky dory. She's a champ.
So funny story of the week: My companion, Sister Matheson, was on splits with a different sister when they contacted this very high guy. He claimed to be the chief of a clan in the Congo and he is here on diplomatic business. He wanted to talk to the Mormons because his uncle, the king of the kongo, needs to decide if he's going to let Mormons into the country. Kind of hilarious. His name is Axel. Flash forward 4 hours and Sister Matheson and I are back together, talking to people at the park. A black man with dreadlocks and a jamaican sweatshirt walks over to us and yells, ''YO! MATHESON!'' I look at her with a how-on-earth-do-you-know-this-guy look. I soon learn that this is the same guy she met earlier. He asks me where I'm from and I said Utah and then go on explaining that I'm just taking a break from my normal life. He asks me what I'm going to do when I get home and I said, ''I'm going to be a famous musician'' to which he replied, ''Well I play the drums! We should start a band!'' I readily agreed and said that he could be on drums, I'd take guitar, and Sister Matheson could sing. ''I didn't know you had the voice of an angel,'' he directed to her. Before she could say anything I cut in said, ''She absolutely does.'' He then turns serious and says, ''I have a personal question: how old are you?''
''I'm nineteen.'' - Sister M.'
''Wow! That's so little!'' - Axel
''Well I'm turning 20 in 2 days!'' - Sister M.
''Are you having a party? Wait. Better idea. I'LL throw you a party! I'll invite all of my friends and we can drink alcohol!'' He doesn't listen to our fervent explanations of us not drinking alcohol and instead says, ''Matheson. That's a weird name. Is that your real name?''
''Well, this is what I go by while I'm here.'' - Sister M.
''But is it your real name?''
''No, well, it's my last name.''
''So your family name? You go by your family name? Does that mean that if you marry me, then you'd go by my family name?''
''YES!'' - me
Axel disregards my comment. Wasn't good enough for him. ''Would you go by my name if you married me? We don't know whats gonna happen. I just met you, but uh, I really like you!'' I'm crying laughing at this point.
''I don't date while I'm on a mission. It's a rule.'' - Sister M.
''What rule can't be broken?'' - Axel
''THAT ONE. THAT ONE CAN NOT BE BROKEN.''
''Well when do you go home?''
''November.''
''Perfect! I start work in November! We got looooots a time!'' - Axel. He then goes in for a handshake but fakes and gives her a bro hug instead. He walks away and I fall the the ground, clutching my stomach from laughing so hard.
So that is the story of how my companion got proposed to by a Congian Prince.
We had a wonderful district meeting on Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence, a general conference talk. In it is listed 6 things we need to do to overcome the natural man. I won't take away the pleasure of reading it yourselves, but I will say that my favorite part is being 100% responsible. That means stop making excuses and blaming some other outside forces for things that go wrong. Take 100% responsibility. I've really started to notice myself making excuses and not taking responsibility for things that are 100% within my control but because of our training, I've seen a change in my attitude and our success.
Tak for jer. Jeg elsker jer og beder for jer hver dag! Ha' en god uge!
