Aalborg Adventures Episode 13: Splendid Spectacle It Was
April 30, 2018
Halløj min kær familie! How are you all?
Danish Word of the Week: uidentificeret flyvende objekt. UFO.
Danish Fun Fact: Danish people drink something called Saft. It's concentrated fruit that one dilutes with water. Looks like Kool-Aid but tastes like heaven.
Well this week was awesome! We had an incredible lesson with our new investigator named Jennifer. She is from Madrid but has been in Denmark for a few weeks and speaks Danish pretty well. We found her last week sitting on a park bench. We started talking to her and found out that she had just broken up with her boyfriend and wasn't sure if God really was aware of her. She even started crying. We showed a great Book of Mormon verse to her and could see that it touched her. We met with her this past Tuesday and it was awesome. This transfer, it has been really difficult to meet with people. None of the new investigators we've found have kept their appointment, so it was a huge blessing when Jennifer showed up at the park to meet with us. We taught her about the restoration and the Book of Mormon and it was a fabulous lesson. She said that after she met us the first time that she went home and prayed and it ''felt good.'' She is really at a time in her life where the gospel will be readily accepted. Keep her in your prayers! <3
Søster Matheson and I found the gem of Aalborg, called The Lighthouse Street Food. It's a huge concrete storage house right next to our apartment that is basically an indoor food truck round up. They have food from all over the world, and give out free tastes! So I had fish and chips for the fist time in my life, fried fatted duck, and butter chicken curry. It was soooooo good. I'll definitely be going back soon.
We also had the Viborg sisters back on splits! Søster Partner and I rocked the streets of Aalborg. We knocked into a lady from Germany who was super eager to read the Book of Mormon. I've never had someone so eager to have the Book! She said that we could come back :) It was a beautiful day out when the sisters came, so Søster Partner and I tried a new thing called ''Boat Contacting.'' We went and talked to people on their boats. It was a bold endeavor and not exactly the most successful one. We found that it was much better to talk to people on the pier about why they liked boating. The answers would get surprisingly spiritual. It was a good way to help people connect the dots from their own lives to the bigger, eternal picture.
We also got transfer calls, and I am STAYING IN AALBORG! Søster Matheson and I are going at least one more together! That's great news, because we just started playing chess every night and I reaaaaally don't think I could have given that up. We played a smashing game of chess last night. My king was the last of my pieces alive, but it took Søster Matheson an hour to kill him. I didn't go down without a fight.
We had one of our former investigators come to church yesterday! When I asked how he liked it, he told me about how he needs new glasses. So we'll see. After church we went over to eat with a cute cute member from Vietnam. She is known for stuffing us with delicious food, and she definitely delivered this time. It was a lovely way to end the transfer.
One of the best feelings in the world is reading in the scriptures and finding, what my dear friend Søster Dorman calls, little gems. The Book of Mormon is filled with them. These gems are really well written phrases, new ideas, or really anything that makes you stop and think, ''wow. that was beautiful.'' A great example of a Book of Mormon gem is in Jacob 2:8,'' And it supposeth me that they have come up hither to hear the pleasing word of God, yea, the word which healeth the wounded soul.'' How wonderfully said. This is in the middle of Jacob's address to the Nephites following Nephi's death, and can be easily looked over. But it twinkles just enough to catch your eye and appreciate its beauty. I'd invite you all to seek out these gems. God is a god of beauty, and for that am I eternally grateful.
Tusind tak for alt hvad I gør for mig! Jeg elsker til at høre om jeres liv og alt som I er i gang med. Tak for jeres bønner, og ha' en dejlig uge!
MKH, Søster Esplin
