Aalborg Adventures Episode 14: A Monk, A Nun, and A Mormon Walk Into a Danish Culture Class
May 7, 2018
Hello, hello!
Danish Word of the Week: entreprenør. It means construction :)
Danish Fun Fact: Denmark sells a wonderful type of Fanta called Fanta Exotic. Not found in the states, so so sorry. I do love it.
So this week was definitely a little different. We spent the majority of it NOT in Aalborg. On Wednesday, Søster Matheson and I woke up at the crack of dawn to catch the earliest train out of Aalborg down to Slagelse. We picked up some missionaries along the way and had a jolly old time. We all met up with our mission president to talk about what kinds of things the mission is doing well, needs help on, etc. We ended the meeting with a very European outdoor lunch of the most wonderful burgers. Instead of hoping back on a train to Aalborg, I said farewell to my dearest companion and made my way to Copenhagen. A new law was just passed in Denmark, and in order for us to stay in Denmark as religious ministers, we have to take a 2 day Danish Government and Culture class. So a handful of other missionaries and I stayed in Copenhagen for this class. While the content of the class wasn't exactly the most interesting (we talked about Democracy, divorce, marriage, etc), the students were! I walked into a room full of Buddhist monks, nuns, pastors, and even a Muslim missionary. It was super super awesome to talk to all of these different kinds of people. We are all so different, and yet driven by a common cause. I loved getting to know all of these people a little better. By the end of the class, we were a tight-knit group. It was hard to say goodbye to those awesome people.
I had another really spiritual experience this week. My companion and I, along with an Elder in our ward, are playing an arrangement of ''My Kindness Shall Not Depart From Thee,'' a song I'd never actually heard, for our zone conference on Tuesday. As we were practicing, we all felt the Spirit almost overwhelmingly strong. This song and the message it conveys is powerful. Through its lyrics and melody I've really come to a better knowledge of the nature of our Savior. This week, I'd really encourage you all to take a few moments and look up that song. Listen closely to the lyrics. I know that God uses music to speak to His children, and that is definitely a song made to hear.
Jeg er ganske taknemmelig for alt hvad I gør for mig. Tak for jeres støtte og bønner! Jeg holder meget af jer! Ha' en god uge!
MKH, Søster Esplin
